We visited the island in May 2010. The wait for a raft over was short, on the way back we waited a bit. The island was pretty boring. The caves were very dark and claustrophobia inducing. We did wander over to the "fort" but found that boring as well.

A Fitting Tribute to Mark Twain

Cons:

Aunt Polly's has been closed

More than a century before there was a Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger America celebrated the Adventures of Tom Sawyer with his friends Joe Harper, Huckleberry Finn and Becky Thatcher. Before Lord Voldemort raised his wand Injun Joe was striking fear in the children of St. Petersburg (Hannibal, Missouri). I strongly recommend that one read or re-read Mark Twain's Adventures of Tom Sawyer in preparation for your own adventures on Tom Sawyer Island and Fort Sam Clemens. The Imagineers did an excellent job of recreating those memorable locations from Twain's book. Considering that Marceline, Missouri was the inspiration for Disney's Main Street USA, and that Hannibal, Missouri is not that far from Marceline, it is a fitting attraction for the Magic Kingdom. I'm 62. Each time I visit the island I relive those days of my youth when I wanted to be Tom Sawyer, or Huck Finn. Meandering through the cave and mine is just how I imagined it was when reading the adventure of Tom and Becky lost in the cave. This is an attraction that is fun and can be used as a teachable moment for your children and grandchildren.

What a bore! I have had more fun times at the science museum than this attraction. I don't get why they put this ride in the MK. It lacks a lot of theme towards Disney as a whole.

Our kids love to go here to run around for a while. The fort is especially fun for them. It is also a great spot to do some photography while the kids are having fun. There are a lot of areas to get great pictures from. One of special note is the Haunted Mansion.
Be sure to check out the barrel bridge and the caves. Just be sure to watch your step as there are a lot of areas with uneven footing on the island.

Lot of walking, nothing too exciting
|

From a nice relaxing stroll or just sitting and watching the people Tom Sawyer island offers that for adults, and some good exploring for the kids, from the caves to the fort. Nothing really exciting going on here but you can burn a little time just relaxing. Kids might enjoy going to the fort to shoot the fake guns or exploring the caves to see the jewels.

Fun to explore, and quick to get to/from - never had a one sailing wait. This is a hidden gem worth exploring and taking a break from the park bustle.

Nothing brings back the childhood spirit as well as tom sawyer island does. You are able to go through tiny gaps in massive caves, explore a fortress, run through a barrel bridge... its just good clean fun... but only once every couple of years...

Cons:

Not really worth the time for adults
|
|
Tom Sawyer Island is really a place for kids to go, run around and let off some steam. There are plenty of things there for them to explore. For adults it can be interesting to look around, but it's not really worth the time. The island also has some dark caves that may frighten some smaller kids.

Cons:

make sure you have a drink with you...
|

The island itself has some cute little tunnels, caves, a fort to climb in and pretend, and some bouncy bridges. It is a great place for a child who can't sit still and needs to run off some steam. I really like it. But I always get very thirsty and there is only one water fountain. So bring a drink. There are rest rooms here also.
It is a really cute idea. The kids love the fort!

It is interesting if your children are of the right age. It also has the advantage of a place in the park that can be relatively quiet on very crowded days.

I like the diverse aspects of the attraction. You start with a raft ride to the island and then while on the island you get to explore caves, playgrounds, rickety bridges and playing in a fort. If I went there when I was 10 my parents would never have got me off the Island. Usually do not go every year.

My kids, when they were younger had a great time. My daughter did, though, get scared and started crying in the cave because of the dark. Adults will find little to do, except possibly take a nap.

We were on the lookout for one of the hidden paintbrushes, so it gave us something to do while on the Island. We would have definitely been bored otherwise. Neat place, but very little to make it worth the time.

This is a waste of space to me. You already have The Swiss Family Tree House. Do we really need another playground. Maybe it's me but I just don't understand it's purpose.

We went over to the island on our last visit (2 adults). For us it was fun because it was less crowded than the park. We loved exploring the Fort. Next trip we can't wait to take our almost 3 year old over to have some time exploring.

A nice getaway from the crowds, even on a busy day in the Magic Kingdom. All the greenery tends to make it shady and cool, as well. Lots of paths to explore (don't miss the barrel bridge, or the Fort if it's open) and the odd bench, barrel or rocking chair to sit on. Was more of a destination when the Aunt Polly's counter service still served sandwiches and the like; it is rarely open now and only served ice cream last I looked.

Tom Sawyer's Island is a really great place to take a break on. The secluded, foliage covered island offers a cool place to relax and take a breather. There are neat area's to explore with caves, forts, and other landmarks for the kids to investigate. Don't miss this!
