Positive aspects of the product (pros): different than just the usual offerings Cons: Not a wide variety of offerings
While I enjoyed a few visits to the Mara on Dec 2009 stay at AKV, I think it would get old really fast if you were to try to eat there more than a handful of times on a trip. The food quality was fine & I enjoyed having African Stew, a Falafel Pita and other less than ordinary offerings. But I think the food courts at places like All Star Movies just have more offerings. I was glad we had a kitchen in our villa & had bought groceries as we could not have eaten a meal a day here for the entire stay.

Ate here for one breakfast and one supper.
Nice breakfast options are available, including an omelette sandwich and breakfast wrap. It's easy to grab and go. For supper, the African Stew is a nice change but otherwise everything else was pretty generic.
There didn't seem to be a ton of seating, but everytime we were there we didn't have trouble finding a table. Maybe people were at Jiko or Boma. It was nice to have a TV there showing the classic disney cartoons to keep the kids still!
Overall it's not bad, but not as good as counterservices at other Deluxe Resorts (like Artist's Palette at SSR)

Has a good selection of foods, including some unique items. We've not found it to be very busy so its a quick in and out.

Indoor and outdoor dining. Television with Disney cartoons for the kids. The burgers were yuck. The pizza was mediocre. The African stew was interesting. This is a good place to go for something quick, but don't expect good food.

fine if you need something, but i'd prefer to eat elsewhere. Tables not cleaned frequently the day we were there. Zebra domes were not the spectacular treat I'd been hearing about. WL has better counter service.

This is one of the few places on property that has Mr. Pibb! yumm...
The food is good and there are enough "regluar" menu items to keep the kids happy.

My wife and I are adventurous eaters and we really liked how this food court offered atypical menu items. A lot of the food was "African" inspired, and were very tasty. I only wish they had a wider variety of choices.

It took awhile to find the place, and a bit of confusion when placing our order, but I really enjoyed the olive flat bread that I got (I wanted another). The place needs a fresh coat of paint and the theming is there but seems a bit lacking.

The only place we ate breakfast at. Found it o.k. From what I have been told, counter service for breakfast in disney is very similar. The service was alright but not expectional when getting our food or paying - need to be educated a little more about the dinning plan.
Went to 2 other restaurants first before finding the Mara.

We first tried The Mara for breakfast. 2 breakfast platters, and a croissant with egg and bacon. It tasted like all the other resort counter service breakfasts we've had.
The chicken dinner consists of half a chicken and fries. The chicken had a very strong smokey flavor and was dry.

We ate here three times during the course of our stay (next door at Kidani Village) in May 2010.
On our arrival night, we walked over to Mara and decided to get African Stew & Zebra Domes, as well as a refillable mug for both of us to share. We are only familiar with the All Stars and their ordering systems so didn't realize there is a central line. Once we were directed where to go, they gave us a pager and it was only a few minutes before our food was ready. To drink, we got the Gold Peak White Tea with Citrus. It was DELICIOUS, as was the rest of the meal. I now understand the hype about zebra domes. They were AMAZING. Our only complaint was that the stew was a smaller portion than expected, considering we shared. But we ate the bread bowl too and that helped to fill us up.
The Friday after we arrived we went to Mara for breakfast. We got the Breakfast Bounty Platter (scrambled eggs, Mickey waffle, potatoes, bacon, sausage, biscuit), a fruit cup, a bottle of apple juice, and a bottle of water. The platter was more than enough to feed us both. Everything was great! I had a bite of the eggs because I'm normally not an egg person, but mom said they were out of this world, so I had to try them. She was right, they were really good. The fruit was really fresh, the sausage was huge, the biscuit was soft and delicious. The apple juice was also very large.
The following Wednesday we went back to Mara for dinner and this time we ordered the cheese flatbread, a watermelon cup, and a slice of cheesecake. The flatbread was very good, hot and fresh. It was definitely big enough for the two of us. The watermelon was fresh, juicy, ad sweet. The cheesecake was perfect and it was also very large.
We enjoyed Mara. The selection was large enough to keep us satisfied the few times we were there, but it might get boring if you ate there every day.
We never had trouble finding a seat and the cast members were very friendly.

We chose to have breakfast here one morning for the waffles. Everyone seemed to enjoy those, but that evening we had dinner and it wasnt a hit. To be honest I was the only one to eat, since the choices were slim pickins for my picky family. I had the turkey sandwich, and it was less than stellar.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): location and lack of crowd Cons: need more ethnic offerings
I was very happy with this place, if only because the people working there could not have been more friendly. The food was standard quick serve fare. I was hoping for some Boma dishes offered here, that would have knocked it out of the park for me.
