Space is such a fun experience. Being completely surrounded by darkness is a big part of the fun, as well as the catchy music. Even though the ride is not actually that fast, flying by those stars makes it seem 10x faster.

Space Mountain is a Disneyland classic! It has some of the best overall theming of any ride in the Park. The inside line area is themed as a spaceport, and resembles something out of "2001, A Space Odyssey"- very "retro science fiction futuristic". You really get a sense of what the ride is all about, a rocket trip through outer space, even before you see the ride vehicles. (Which look like little space ships!) The coaster ride itsself is a highly immersive experience: you travel quickly through the "galaxy" (stars projected all around in an otherwise totally dark ride); there are lots of twists and turns and it seems much faster than it is due to being in the dark. The whole experience is accompanied by music that fits it so well, and is heard via speakers in each space ship/ride vehicle. You'll want to ride it again and again and...

Let me first say that I am not a roller coaster rider. I push myself to do Disney coasters due to the amazing creativity and story that goes with them. I was amazed at how much I enjoyed Space Mountain.
Right from the begining this Disneyland attraction blows WDW's out of the water. The lift hill alone, with it's "funhouse" lighting makes you believe you're losing gravity is fantastic.
Once you're flying though space; DARK SPACE, Disney's amazing lighting and music take over to thrill you.
I LOVED IT!

With the new track and soundtrack, and the darkening of the inside, this ride is as good as it gets! I enjoy how the music matches the action of the ride. Get there early or use a fastpass. Great ride for the entire family - kids and adults alike. Intensity slightly less than Big Thunder Mountain.

I found Disneyland's version of Space Mountain to be true to it's roots. Still has the same ambiance of the original with an updated track and ride vehicles. The addition of music into the coaster takes the ride to a new level and makes it seem more thrilling.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Everything! This is a favorite that's gotten better with time. Cons: strobe lights give some people headaches
I rode this the year it opened and it's been a constant favorite. The refurb several years ago only made a good thing better. It's a smooth, not-too-scary roller coaster with cool effects. Don't miss it!

One of my favorites!! Though as I get older, I find that the ride gets a tad more jarring each time I ride it (but that's me getting older, not the ride!!). I find myself reaching for the Tylenol after the first ride during a visit, but SO WORTH it!! This is the only "grown-up" ride I make sure to do twice when we visit, as most of our time is spent between the Carousel, teacups, Dumbo, and Small World (the 3-year old's favorites).
My husband and I use the rider-switch pass option combined with the FastPass when we visit and take turns by ourselves. They are also pretty quick about grabbing single riders out of the line, so we've never waited long for the ride ... we tend to go off season, so waiting in line hasn't ever been an issue.
One note - we were there last October when it was dolled up for Halloween - I thought some of the graphics might have been too scary for the younger "new to Space Mountain" riders. Keep that in mind if you travel there around Halloween. My kids are 3 and 10 mos, so not an issue.

I only had the WDW version to compare this to, and I can only say that this version is quite more intense than what I was expecting. I loved the ride, but apparently some others on the ride couldn't.
I just wish the outside queue had more shade.

The long wait times are worth it for this one, it's a Disneyland classic. It's wild enough for adults, yet mild enough for the kiddies, if that makes any sense. Love it, best times are in the morning or late night, shortest wait times.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): None Cons: Long outdoor queue, unpleasant ride
After reading numerous reports of how Disneyland's version of Space Mountain was so much better than WDW's we had high hopes. Unfortunately we found the ride very unpleasant, the pitch black darkness and rough ride of the Disneyland version left us nauseous (and we never have trouble with the WDW version or Rock n' Rollercoaster for that matter). Also, we rode during Morning Magic hour and the long trek through the queue to get to the ride was hot and exhausting.
