I have enjoyed the food I have had at the Blue Bayou, but will usually eat lunch there since dinner is pretty expensive. The atmosphere is great, and it is pretty cool to say that you have had dinner inside the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction.

I had had some mixed reviews about the Blue Bayou. When I finally had the chance to go, I was completely blown away.
My party of 4 arrived about 10 minutes to our priority seating, and requested a water front table. The host stated that it would be about a 40 minute wait. We said ok and went and sat down. 10 minutes later, our table was ready. They ushered us into the restaurant to a water front table. Immediately our server came to take our drink order. She was fast and courteous. A few of us ordered the Blue Bayou Surf and Turf, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our other member just got the filet, which was good as well.
The atmosphere in this restaurant is amazing... I now see why the Blue Bayou has remained a continuous quintessential part of the Disneyland Experiance.

This is a place I had wanted to dine at since I was a little girl. Now that I am able to spend my own money, I had to go try it out.
The atmosphere was great. We sat on the water and had a great view of PofTC passing us by. We both started out with the Gumbo, which was to die for!!! I would go there again just to have a big bowl of this. Then came the main course. My husband had the Filet and I had the Surf and Turf. My lobster tail was GREAT, but both my husband and I thought the filet had no real flavor. It was super tender as filet should be, but other then that it was just lacking flavor. We have had better steaks at our local Black Angus.
I would eat here again, but would try something other then the over price filet just to have the experience.
Oh yeah, save room for the dessert... the Flying Dutchman is AWESOME! Warm cookie boat and icecream with cho and carm on top. More then enough for two to eat!

This could be the best restaurant in all of Disney...but it is not. The food is ok, but way overpriced...but you are in Pirates!

After many trips to Disneyland, DH and I decided to splurge and eat at the Blue Bayou a few years ago. We then made it an (almost) always tradition. The fresh bread while waiting for the meal is a treat. We love being indoors away from the rain, cold, heat, sun, whatever. The atmosphere is fun and is even better when there is live music playing, which occasionally happens. We enjoy the waterside seating (must request this when checking in for your reservation) but be aware that it may take a lot longer for you to get a waterside table. We enjoy watching the Pirate's boats float by--although it can be annoying when passengers are taking flash pictures. We enjoy the Monte Cristo sandwich which is only served at lunch. The downside is that the price keeps going up for this sandwich, so we don't go there as often as we used to. The restaurant is dimly lit and service can be a bit slow, so it may not be the best for kids who want to get back to the parks. We have had some good servers and some who were a little lacking, but that can happen anywhere. This is a fun splurge for us, but be aware that it can be pricey for what you get so you may want to check the menus on the DIS before making a reservation.

Eating here is fun, it's special. The atmosphere is unique and adds to the experience. Take that away and the food is over priced. We love the salad and gumbo! I tried the short ribs and it was mostly fat, which was disappointing. I will stick with steak from now on. The dessert offerings are tasty and if price is an issue but you'd like to eat here...just oder dessert. The split plate fee is ridiculous but there are ways around that. It is a place that you can eat at once and be fine. I think we eat here twice a year and dont feel the need to do so more than that. Especially since you can get our favorite, the monte cristo, at Cafe Orleans for a cheaper price. A priority seating arrangement is a must!

The Blue Bayou is a great place to see. You get to eat as you watch people on the Pirates ride. However, the cost is a little steep. The food isn't great, but of course you pay a little more for the ambiance.

I had never been to Disneyland before this trip and when we took our first ride on Pirates and saw the restaurant we (my husband and I)wanted to eat there.
We made our reservations for lunch(if you want to eat there..this is a really good idea) and showed up at the appropriate time. When we went inside it took a minute for our eyes to adjust to the dim, and it is very dim in there. But we loved the atmosphere and the staff was very nice.
I ordered the Jambalaya and my husband ordered the short ribs. Both very good dishes. The Jambalaya is spicy. I would call this medium spicy. If you are wimpy with spicy food don't get this. The flavors were very good with the shrimp, the crab and the mahi mahi, and the other ingredients. I was served quite a bit so the portions are not small.
My husband ordered the short ribs. These were EXCELLENT! I come from beef country and these tasted delicious. There were 4 very meaty ribs with potatoes and vegetables.
While the service was good and the food was very good, we were there for lunch and $84 seems a little high for lunch. I would recommend this as great place to eat, but not if you are on a budget.

I surprised my best friend with a lunch at Blue Bayou on my trip to DL in october of 2009. We had reservations ahead of time and got our table maybe 5 mintues after showing up. We did not get a table near the water and next time I eat here I would defintely wait and request a waterside table. We had complementary rolls which should have been warmer, but they were still pretty good. My friend ordered a small bowl of gumbo that she let me try, it was DELICIOUS! We both thought we could have eaten a whole bowl of it. I had a salad which was also good. Then she ordered the Monte Cristo, it was good but very filling and just a little "too much".. it's almost like a sandwich and dessert all in one. She could not eat it all and I took a few bites of it as well. I had the crab cakes which were moist and delicious! I loved them! We didn't get dessert because we were just so full from the lunch! I loved eating here! It was a bit expensive but you are also paying for the atmosphere and the fact that you are eating at a disney restaurant. Eat here for lunch instead of dinner when it's less expensive. Loved it!

I've been going to the Blue Bayou since I was ordering off the kids menu. As an adult, I still find the atmosphere enchanting. The southern plantation experience complete with starlit night, sounds of nature, and of course the pirate boats starting off on their journey.
I was there with my family in September. We signed up for the first time-slot at lunch to be sure we could get a table by the water. We had 4 of us, and we ordered 4 meals and drinks (2 teas, 2 sodas, and water all around). It was my parents 43 anniversary, and the waiter brought them over a free desert after our meal.
The staff was attentive without being over bearing. Our water glasses never went empty, and our plates were cleaned up without us feeling rushed.
I would say the food ranges from merely "ok" to "great" depending on what you order.
The rest of my family ordered the long-standing Monte Cristo Sandwhich, which you can now only order off the lunch menu. All of them said it was "ok", ordered more for the memories than the taste.
My mother commented that was probably the last time she would order it because it was so greasy.
I ordered the vegetarian Portobello Mushroom and Couscous Maque Choux. This is described on the menu as: marinated in a balsamic vinaigrette, then broiled and served with roasted corn and bell-pepper couscous and sauteed spinach.
I ordered it "Vegan" and crossed my fingers. It was wonderful. In fact, I have to say it was one of the best "vegan" meals I have had at a sit-down restaurant. My mother in I actually ended up splitting the meal.
I would highly recommend this meal to any vegetarian/vegan. It tasted delicious and left me feeling satisfied and full.
Realistically, I know I'm giving it 1 to 2 additional points for memory value, but if you want to start a tradition of eating at the park, and don't mind spending the money - The tables at the water and the atmosphere, in my opinion can't be beat anywhere else in Disneyland.
As a bonus in the summer the rush of cool air that you feel when you go up the stairs becomes part of the experience.

I love the ambience of Blue Bayou. We dined there May 14th, 2010. The service was wonderful, we had a party of six, so we did not even ask for a waterside table, as I do not think that they have tables for six along the water. I had the Monte Cristo sandwich and thought it was wonderful! I started with the salad, which was also very good. The Monte Cristo is huge, I will share it with someone else next time, even if there is a 'split plate' charge. My sister had the Jambalaya and enjoyed it. Another member of our party had the portabello vegetarian option. It was huge, and he enjoyed it also. The prices are high, you are paying for the atmosphere. You do want to look at the menu before deciding to dine here, as the menu is limited.

I love eating here! It is a real experience! I would definitely recommend trying it! It is also well worth asking and waiting for a table next to the water. I normally have the Tesoro chicken - a great option if you are worried about price is to split the meal. Though there is a split plate charge, you both still get the starter (gumbo is delicious!!) and your own choices of sides. It is only the main part that is split. We had one bad meal once, sent it back and got something else right away. Note that the salad is a wedge salad, so it is like a chunk of lettuce rather than sliced lettuce. Personally I wouldn't like it. Service is pretty fast and the experience is really fun! Worth the price! Make sure to make reservations ahead of time.

They have good selections to choose from ranging from beef to chicken to vegetarian. If you tell them it is your birthday they will usually give you a chocolate mousse with a candle. The atmosphere is worth the price to me.

We had lunch here on my 40th bday. I had the Monte Cristo(came to me cold) and when I asked to send it back the waitress gave me major attitude, she for whatever reason never came back to our table, and I chose to end the meal there for me it had been ruined and I will never go back, I liked the fact that we were dining next to my favorite attraction but that one bad exp. has ruined it for me forever, too much money to be treated the way I was!!!

The atmosphere is basically what you're paying for and ends up being worth it. It's very unique and if your a big pirates fan like me then you'll love blue bayou!! The food is ok...I ate here for my birthday last year and I got a steak that was pretty good. The potatoes that came with it were not so great though, it seemed as if they were from a box. My BF had the jambalaya and he seemed to like it ok. They did bring out a little dessert for my since it was my birthday which was pretty good!

Poorly lit I received a charley horse by running into a table. The food was very average I had a chicken breast with a bone stuck into for $28.00. The place has potential if they made it character dinning restaurant with Tiana and Prince Naveen, but as is it's just not worth the money. Opt for the counter service next door it's cheaper and has the same food.

I am not sure why people are complaining about it being dark....its supposed to be dark. Its the bayou atmosphere.
We have eaten there several times and we love it. Yes the price is a bit expensive, but you are at Disneyland, everything is expensive. Also, the menu is listed right outside so you can see the prices before you decide to go in and eat. Its nice and cool in there, perfect to get away from the hot weather and relax.

I was nervous about eating here because I have seen alot of negative reviews. Our experience was amazing. We were seated within 15 min. with a reservation but did not get waterside because of a long wait. we were pretty close though. Our server was really nice. My husband and I shared the strip steak nd it was delicious. We each got a huge salad and our steak was really large (I could have never eaten a whole one) the atmosphere was really fun too.

We made dining reservations for the Blue Bayou on our trip to Disney in July 2010, using the Disney Dining Plan. The dining plan made the experience so much better, because we didn't have to worry about the expense, aside from the tip left for our awesome waiter. I went with my parents and two children and we were seated immediately with a great view of the attraction. I have two picky eaters in my family, my father and my oldest daughter; I was worried that the menu may not contain anything they would eat. But with a bit of special requesting, we were all satisfied with our meal choices, I have to say the gumbo was awesome. The wait staff was friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was terrific. My only regret is that we only set up a reservation for one evening, the kids wanted to have dinner there every night.

This one was on my wife's bucket-list, so I think she has a more pleasant view of our experience. It wasn't bad... it just wasn't enough good to make me want to go again. It was just too dark, and very few tables with a good view of the Pirate ride. And the food was good, my problem was as I ate it I knew I could walk 100 yards down the street and get same food for less.
I say if you have never been, try it out, but after that, just go to Cafe Orleans... many of the same items and much less expensive
