While my family is taking in "It's Tough to Be a Bug", I will often find a nearby bench and just see how many animals I can find on the Tree of Life. Each time, I find something I didn't see before.
The Tree of Life is a wonderful symbol for all the truly amazing animals that roam the Earth. Take some time to really "see" it!

When you see the tree, you are immediately impressed with the obvious amount of thought and work that went in to creating it. It is however not until you are wandering around on the paths that take your near it, or waiting in the line for a Bug's life that you can truly appreciated the art work and effort that went into putting this thing together. It is worth taking the time to examine and take pictures of.

OK, ummm . . . it's a huge fake tree that has animal sculptures built into the trunk.
I wish the leaves were a little more natural color green.
Oh, here's something interesting, they had to think of something huge to build it off of as they wanted to put a large theater inside it. They decided to use an offshore oil drilling platform as the base for the tree.

My favorite Disney icon at WDW, it's so well designed and fascinating to look at. From far away, you'd never guess that all the knots and gnarls on the trunk of the tree are carvings of animals. I find it fascinating to look at. Its design is truly beautiful and a creative stroke of genius of Disney's Imagineers.

The tree of life is the centre piece of AK. It sits amongst the park in a magestic setting. You dont realise until you get closer up that the tree has in fact 100's of animal carvings covering it. Take the time to recognise some of the carved animals. The tree of life is also the entrance to 'its tough to be a bug' so within the que you can see some of these amazing carvings.

Magnificent Park icon. Who could not like this? The hundreds of wooden animals that are carved on the trees trunk are amazing. And the fact an attraction lives beneath the tree make it even more interesting.

The artwork is amazing on this. If you have good camera equipment and a good zoom, you can get some amazing shots of many of the animals. The detail is incredible. A great "weenie" (as Walt Disney called them).

It is nice to take a couple of minutes to check out the different animals carved into the tree. It also helps pass time if you are waiting for "it's tough to be a bug" but I wouldn't consider it an "attraction" just like I wouldn't consider the Mickey hat or Cinderella's castle an attraction. It is more like scenery.

The detail is amazing and much time can be spent looking at all the carvings from all the various angles. There are numerous trails that wind along the base of the tree, including some that are used for the queue for Its Tough To Be A Bug.

a diversion. Not a destination exactly. We love walking around the tree looking at the carvings and exploring the trails with animal exhibits. But our preschooler wasn't involved and got bored. Lots of nooks and crannies to explore.

Do yourself a favor and check this out - often overlooked, the carvings in the Tree of Life are outstanding. My wife and I spent a good 45 minutes walking around the tree and identifying as many different carvings as we could. This is a wonderful thing to do when you don't want to go on a ride or watch a show - you know, when you want to look for the hidden gems in the parks.
