The price of this resort puts it out of range for a lot of people who would love to experience it. However, when you have a resort this beautiful and well staffed, one could argue that you have a right to charge a lot for a room. This is one of the original Disney resorts (opened in 1971) and you would never know its age by looking at the rooms, buildings or grounds. Disney at its absolute best.

The Polynesian is my family's favorite deluxe resort. It's location is superb, as it is just a short monorail away from the Magic Kingdom, the Ticket Transportation Center and other deluxe resorts. (In fact, some buildings are located within easy walking distance of the TTC).
You feel as though you are walking through a tropical paradise, with beautiful foliage and lovely white sand beaches. (However - don't swim in the lakes!). Two pools grace the property - the largest with a beach entry and volcano slide, and the other "quiet" pool for a slower experience. However, the Polynesian does not have a Hot tub. Resort guests often watch the fireworks on the beach for a magical experience.
The Marina hosts a number of water activities, and the resort and MK launches can be found at these docks. The resort is also the home of the Spirit of Aloha Luau dinner, located in in Luau Cove. Additional dining is found at the Kona Cafe, Captain Cook's for quick counter service, and O'Hana's.
The Polynesian has gone through extensive remodeling and most of the rooms are updated with flat screen TVs and refrigerators. However, we do find Mousekeeping to be a "hit or miss" proposition, which is unfortunate for the prices most families pay. Food service can be a challenge - because both the Kona Cafe and O'Hana's are popular locations, they do require ADRs and really are not likely to have availability if a resort guest would like to drop by. Additionally, O'Hanas food quality continues to fall off, as menu changes have become less and less popular for my family. Once a "must-do" each trip, we are now content to visit every two or three times.
Overall we love the Poly, but continuous price increases and reduced AP rate availability have affected our attendence at this resort. I wish we could afford to stay here every year!

We've stayed here 3 times and really enjoy this resort. Our first stay was in the concierge building and we had a comp upgrade to lagoon view room. The view was absolutely magical- our son saw the electrical water pageant from our room and it remains one of our favorite disney memories. But there were several major service hiccups that left us feeling a bit blah about the resort. We came back a year later and stayed in a regular old garden view room and I think that was when we fell in love with the Poly. DH and I celebrated our 10th anniversary with our third trip.
The location cannot be beat- we could easily walk to the hotel monorail or to the TTC or to the boat launch. Kona is one of our favorite restaurants for dinner and breakfast and the nearby coffee bar is a great way to get our kona coffee fix on the way to the monorail. We had a great meal at ohana back on 2001 but a return visit in '08 wasn't very good. There are too many other great WDW restaurants for us to try this for a third time.
The room size is great- having the daybed is an added bonus when your 9 yr old and 7 yr old need separate sleeping spaces.
Our kids enjoyed the pool and there's a little sprinkler/splash area for the smaller ones. The beach is always nice (stay out of the lake, though!). I do wish there was a hot tub here.
Because this resort is made up of individual buildings, if it's raining, you have to expose yourself to the elements to get to transportation or the GCH.
Unfortunately, WDW has other great resorts and the current price at the poly means we've been staying at other, less expensive alternatives (AKL, WL and POR). But if a good discount came our way, we'd definately come back here.

From the moment we first arrived at the Poly, we knew this was our second home. Our son sat on the balcony everyday just watching the monorail. We love this hotel. The pools are fantastic, the view of the fireworks is great, and the CM's are incredible. If you can afford it, stay at the Poly!

First let me say I have not been here since the refurb. The grounds and location are a 10+ but the room was a 7 or 8. It was small and dingy. I assume the new rooms are much nicer so I'll give this place a 9. We are DVC now, so we are spoiled with big rooms.

Poly is excellent due to its amenities and location.
Concierge level gets outstanding. Food Options and Cast Members in Hawaii building excellent. You could actually save money by staying in concierge if your family are big eaters.
Don't have anything bad to say about this resort.
The only con would be if you didn't go to WDW for the MK, but were only going to the other parks. Then location would actually be poor.

Stayed there in December 2007 with my family and I we liked their theme and it's location.
We did have issues waiting for a bellman to take us to the Hawaii Longhouse because we waited around 10 minutes and kept hearing he will be here in a minute. Besides that it took 3 days for a maintenance Cast Member to fix a light in our bathroom.

We stayed here in April, 2009, and had a fantastic time.
We stayed in a Lagoon-View Club Level room in the Hawaii building. The CMs there were very friendly and helpful. The view of the castle changing colors all night was amazing. We were able to watch the Electrical Water Pageant and the fireworks over the castle from our balcony. It was the best view we've had at WDW.
The theming of the resort is fun, with lots of tikis placed all around in the gardens. The pools are very nice, but really too small to handle the crowds in the afternoon. The sandy beach was a fun place to play (but not the lake). There is a marina here where you can rent boats for touring the lakes.
The transportation was very good. Monorail or boat to the MK. We could walk to the TTC and catch the direct monorail to Epcot, too. We did not like the bus service -- it was slow and had multiple stops. We found ourselves taking taxis to the other 2 parks rather than deal with the busses.
There are 2 great TS places here to eat ('Ohana is so much fun!), and one CS that is conveniently located.
The Polynesian has a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere that really helped us to unwind after being in the crowded parks. I would happily stay there again!

We styaed at the Poly 9/2007, Mk view, 2 rooms. This was a trip for our sons frist bday and the Grandparents were with us. The rooms are very large by Disney standards. The location can't be beat, we could walt to the TTC to get to epcot, the ferry, or monorail to mk. The pool area is great, zero entry is great with little ones and the grandparents. Wishes from our balcony everynight was awesome. I could wake up and see the castle from my bed. My only downside was that it was a bit of a walk to the gch for my parents but not a big deal. I also think that for the price that they are charging that internet needs to be included. I am happy to say we are heading back to the Poly this Sept.

The Poly offers a great location, wonderful theming, and large rooms. The price is high, but the convenience and ambiance make it worth it for us. I enjoy Kona Cafe and Ohanas (for breakfast), and the pool area is great. The benefit of the monorail to MK, boat transportation, and the ability to walk to the TTC for the Epcot monorail cannot be overstated. One of the Disney originals, and still one of the best, there's nothing like watching the fireworks from the beach and knowing you get to have tonga toast when you wake up the next day!

The concierge building at the Poly cannot be beaten for a special vaction. The food served in the lounge could easily replace dinner most nights. We spend a great deal of time at the resort when we stay at the Poly because of the amenities of the concierge lounge.
The rooms with the MK view are such a unique experience. We sat on our patio every night and morning. It was so neat to hear the wolf from the haunted mansion and the sound of the steam train.
We have also stayed in garden view rooms at the Poly and loved those as well. Walking through the grounds is such a relaxing treat.
We love the fact that you can walk to the TTC to grab a monorail to Epcot or get the resort monrail to MK.

This is our favorite of the Disney resorts. The grounds and Great Ceremonial House are just beautiful, you forgot you are only a short monorail ride from the parks!
In addition to the theming, our family loves the convience of the monorail. If you stay in one of the buildings near the TTC, you can just hop on the direct monorail to Epcot! You can go wrong with a stay at the Poly.

Stayed concierge and was completely unimpressed (Dec 2002). Entire 3rd floor smelled like vomit. Complained to manager and they kept trying to remedy by shampooing carpet in hallways to no avail.
Concierge was adequate but not special at all. Seemed to be all about the food in the lounge.

We stayed here Aug 08, Jan 09 and March 09 (thanks to the 40% off code)! All three trips were incredible, the staff is fantastic and the location cannot be beat.
In Aug we stayed in the Tuvalu building with a killer view of MK, the Electrical Parade and Wishes. The other two trips we stayed in the Samoa building.
On all three trips the rooms were no where near as clean as they should have been and we had to ask for more toiletries each time.
In January we took our 2 nieces and they called it their Hawaii House and cannot wait to go back. My little niece was sick twice in the middle of the night and both times a wonderful CM came to clean the room and the next day they replaced the mattress and steam cleaned the carpets. The Mousekeeper even left a get well note for my niece.
In March they had a PhotoPass person in the downstairs lobby after 5pm and we had alot of nice pictures taken throughout the lobby with all the lush surroundings.
The pools are great, the dining options are the best and I cannot wait until we can get back to the Poly, it is our favorite resort and holds alot of memories!

We stayed at the Polynesian for nine nights in March 2009. We haven't decided yet what it was exactly about the Polynesian, but it didn't sweep us off our feet. We are not clamoring to go back but we can't just place our finger on why.
The location and access to the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT via the monorail is incredible. Even with a 13 year old we still spend the most time in the Magic Kingdom, so being close to it was wonderful! Because of this access we actually rode Splash Mountain for the first time this year. In mid-March you never know how cold it's going to be and we figured if it was cold and we got drenched we could just hope the monorail back and change.
We were unimpressed by the showers, the shower heads were too low. My husband is not much more than 5'11" and I think the shower head hit him at shoulder level. Made for an awkward shower everyday.
We also had some problems with the ordering system at Captain Cooks. We quickly learned that if you made modifications on your order at the touch screen you better make sure they are still there when you pay for your food. Even doing that we had 75% of our orders prepared wrong. Everything we order with no tomatoes came out with tomatoes. It became very frustrating. 9 out of 10 times when we checked the order at the cashier our modifications had not been saved.
The staff is nice, the lobby is lovely, the grounds are well kept.
But as I mentioned we just can't figure out why but the Polynesian didn't just sweep us off our feet. We don't feel the urge to stay there again anytime soon. Maybe our expectations were too high going into the trip.

We absolutely loved our stay here! They did a great job with the room renovations a few years ago, although the hallways could use the same face lift. The staff was great, especially the front concierge desk with dinner reservations! We loved the decor and feel of the rooms! They were modern yet were really beautiful and did a great job with the theme in the room. We stayed in Rarotonga which is right next to the Great Ceremonial House. We luckily got a third floor balcony room as we requested and even had a view of the quiet pool. As a couple without kids though, we do wish that they had rooms with a king bed but at least it is not doubles!
It was so relaxing being able to take the monorail to MK & Epcot and to walk back in at the end of an exhausting day at the parks to the relaxing lobby with the waterfall and greenery. The pool was very nice but we only spent about 10 minutes in it the whole trip bc the weather was too cool.
My only major issue with this resort though is that they do not have a jacuzzi. I can't believe with the amount you pay to stay here that they didn't invest in a jacuzzi! Especially for such a tropically themed resort!
We loved Ohanas and enjoyed Kona Cafe for sit down dining, however, I was not impressed with the selections at Captain Cooks. I think alot of the options are overly themed and wish they had a few better and plainer choices.
Overall we loved it and would definitely stay again if we could get a good rate. This has become 1 of my 2 favorite resorts, with AKL being the other one - and it is a close call!!

there's so much to love about the Polynesian, but at the same time, it's really a let down. We checked in at about 11, and our room wasn't ready until about 4 pm. Or so we thought. we got the all clear to go into the room, so I trucked up luggage for 2 adults plus a toddler - certainly not a light luggage load. The housekeeper was still cleaning the room when we got there. She actually gave me a hard time about leaving the luggage. She didn't want it on the floor because she had to vacuum and didn't want it on the beds. She finally agreed to let me put it on the day bed. To be fair, I did speak to a manager who issued a credit for 50% off the room for that night. For the prices Disney charges, I expect MUCH more in terms of the room itself. Between the color of the walls and the acoustical ceiling tile (really, Disney - over $300 a night and you leave acoustical ceiling tile exposed?!) it has a very dated feel. I'm 6'2" and the shower head came up to only my chest. I know I'm tall, but I have never had the problem before. there was also a big piece of plywood under the mattress that stuck out. It made convenient footrest if you sat on the edge of the bed - or a great place for my daughter to fall and hit her head. the grounds, however are second to none. Even a garden view here is just beautiful with the thick, almost 40 year old vegetation. At times, from our upper floor room, it felt like we were in a treehouse. It was beautiful. the pool is wonderful, albeit probably just too small for the size of the resort. but it is wonderfully themed and so amazing to see Cinderella Castle while you swim. dining choices are plentiful at the resort itself - but if you can't find anything to suit you, just board the monorail for even more options at the Contemporary or Grand Floridian. The beach is wonderful for sunbathing, or watching evening fireworks. more hammocks would be a welcome addition, but if you can find an empty one, they're wonderful. With the exception of the housekeeper, we had wonderful service. Since most of the time we're at a resort, we're in the room - I have to give this a poor overall rating. I love to visit here. But the rooms are just too shabby for the extreme price tag Disney has put on them. : Posted via eTicket

We stayed here December 5 to December 13. This resort has absolutely the BEST location of any Disney resort. The transportation options are second to none. You have the Monorail at the resort for Magic Kingdom (plus the other monorail resorts), the launches for Magic Kingdom, buses for DHS and AK. Then next door at the TTC you have the Epcot monorail the Ferryboat for Magic Kingdom as well as buses for DHS and AK. The grounds are just amazing and I just loved walking around at night with the tiki torches lit even after walking around the parks all day. We really like the QS Captain Cook's and had an absoulutely fabulous dinner at O'hana! The rooms are also quite large. We had 3 adults, a 14 year old, and a 6 year old and had plenty of room! I can't imagine staying anywhere else now!

The Poly was a disappointment. The dorm like buildings were too spread out on the property. Ours was the furthest from the main building. Our building was in desperate need of updating and a great disappointment for the price, no better than an average Holiday Inn. We were close to transport though.
The staff was not terribly helpful, we tried to find our building in the dark the first night and finally had to demand help which was met with groans.
Volcano pool that is so hyped was a joke, only 4 feet deep, obviously just for the kids.
I would never stay at the Poly again.

Never stayed here but I always make sure I visit this resort everytime I go to Disney. There is a great feel as you walk thru the lobby. Also I have eaten at Ohanas which is delicious however they give ALOT of food! Good for big parties!

I love the Polynesian. This is the only hotel we stay when visiting WDW. During this last trip we stayed club level, with a Magic Kingdom View its expensive, but well worth it. The staff is wonderful, so friend and warm. The landscape is lovely, a true island/laid back type of feel and cute bunnies come out at night to feed on the grass!! Living in a major city, its great to be away from it all and just be in island relaxing mode. There are 3 placed to eat at Polynesian plus room service. Captain Cooks (fast food) is good has a bit of everything, my husband lives for their cupcake and the heavenly Dole Whip. Kona Kafe (sit down dining) is great, I personally think their breakfast is to die for, the tonga toast is a must. Last is Ohana, they serve family style breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is character dining, loads of food and good food. They also have a luau, which everyone should try once. Rooms are clean, have flat screen TV and all have 2 queen size beds. If you are honeymooners and couples. Children here seem to better behaved than at other resorts. One really great thing Poly has going on is being to lie in a hammock on the beach and watch wishes at night.

I finally got to stay here this July. The grounds are very well kept and the pool area is so fun! The lobby and gift shops were great as well.
Our mousekeeper Kevin was so nice and had stickers to give to the kids. Everyone at guest service were very helpful. My cousin was there for a business meeting and they had problems with his corporate checks being cashed. The staff was very nice and patient. Would stay here again!

We love the Poly! It is our favorite resort. The grounds are just beautiful with the lush landscaping, Polynesian music playing. The pool is great for the kids, especially with the zero-entry for little ones. The patio area around it could be a bit larger, as it tends to get crowded in the afternoons on a nice day. The beach is awesome, with the hammocks! Love to relax in one of those watching the sun set, or to watch the MK fireworks at night. The location can't be beat, with the monorail at your door, proximity to MK. It mkaes it so easy to travel to MK or Epcot with tired little ones. You can also travel easily to the other 2 resorts for dining, which is nice. The rooms are large compared to most resorts, maybe Contemporary is the only other larger standard room. The restaurants are great, especially OHana's, what a great dinner that is. You can't go wrong with Poly!

Well there is no bad words to describe this resort only good. I love the whole Hawaiian theme along with the cast that remains in character and does it well. Rooms are always in the best of conditions, having inspected them myself, there has never been trash left behind by others. Windows are always clean. Never have a problem with doors, drawers, or any of the rooms electronics. Overall the best resort if your trying for a tropical theme.

I just completed a stay here at a conference rate of $175- lucky me! This was my first time a deluxe Disney resort. I was welcomed warmly off the Magical Express and sped to the online check in desk. I was there less than 3 minutes before I was off to my room: Samoa 3611. This room was on the end of the third floor closest to the Hawaii building and overlooking the quiet pool. I felt this was a very good room location- close to the pool, beach, and Great Ceremonial House. Upon arrival I noted that my room was quite dark. I very much enjoyed the decor here, but the rooms are a little dim even with all the lights on. There was a very wrinkled notice on my desk that they would be power washing our balcony the next day (make sure to bring all of your items in). I was planning to be away from the room the entire day, so that was not an issue for me (and they did do it). Unfortunately, that rendered the balcony chairs unusable for the night since they were really wet. Not a big deal. I absolutely loved the pool theming here, and it was a real treat to watch Wishes and the EWP from the beach. I enjoyed taking the launch, and the convenience of the monorail can really spoil you. It feels "deluxe" in every way. I enjoyed everything I ate at Captain Cook's, which was conveniently located. I just loved walking around the property. The down side was that the room needed some help. The paint was cracked and peeling from some of the walls, and the decor needed a little TLC. A picture had separated from the frame in the bathroom and looked like it had been that way for some time (based on dust). A wall sconce was not on the pedestal correctly (not level, tilted to one side), and it remained that way the entire stay. There were small ants in the bathroom (sink and tub) and on the desk. They were renovating the Hawaii building directly next door, and I have to wonder if that stirred up some of the ant activity. Even with the room issues, I still loved it there. Given the chance to stay there at a discount again, I would jump at it. If I was paying $500/night, I don't think I'd be very happy. When renovation is done I imagine this resort will be pristine again.

This hotel is awesome! We stayed here for a week in the Hawaii building, food and all. I believe the Grand has the best congerice food, but the Poly came close. Only thing to complain about is the obvious outdated rooms, carpet, hallways, ceilings, paint, doors, and other fixtures. Love this hotel!
