While staying at the lodge, you truly feel transported to another place. Amazing architecture and theming. Very helpful CM's, many of which are visiting students from Africa. Lots of activities at the resort, including animal viewing, crafts, fireside storytelling, etc. Excellent food options: Mara (quick service), Boma (buffet), Jiko (signature dining). Nice zero entry pool with slide. Bus service is actually very good with dedicated routes and no sharing with other resorts. Though AKL is farther away from the parks (except AK) than most other resorts, the buses run often and don't make any stops along the way (one exception is the DTD bus stopping at Typhoon Lagoon).

Perhaps I'm biased because this was my first WDW resort but the theming of AKL is amazing. From the drive up the the entrance to the first step past the carved wooden doors, you're in for an amazing, out-of-this-world experience. You can smell the cooking at the restaurants and see the beautiful African art displayed in the lobby. It's a total sensory experience.
There will always be beach and island-themed resorts and most mountain resorts have an A-framed lodge (not to take anything away from WL or the poly bcs I love them, too). But AKL is truly a unique experience.
We've stayed at AKL 4 times in rooms ranging from pool view to club level savannah view. The club level offerings are fantastic but the lounge gets crazy-busy in the mornings to the extent that you cannot find a seat. We have not stayed here since the addition of DVC so I don't know how that has affected the crowds on the club level. Afternoon and evening crowds are not as bad.
We love having a balcony here and being able to sit out and watch the animals. It's a serene feeling you don't always get at resorts closer to the parks. The zero entry pool is great- the kids love the slide and when they were little, it was great to be able to hang out at the shallow end and not worry that they'd take that last step and be over their heads.
The food is fantastic here. Boma is one of our all-time favorites. They have items that our picky eater will eat as well as items for more adventurous palates. The only downside to this restaurant is the chaotic waiting area. After a long day in the parks, it can be a bit much. the Victoria Falls lounge just upstairs is a much more pleasant place to pass your time. We had our first meal at Jiko last fall and it was fantastic- we plan to return next month.
I have heard complaints about the buses but we've never had a problem with the transportation here. My one tiny little complaint would be that it can be a very long walk to some of the rooms on the outer wings- but if you consider the needs of the savannahs, it's totally understandable. But it's something to consider if you have mobility issues.

I have stayed here twice with my wife and we have loved it both times.
The first time we had a Savannah view when we went in December of 2007. It was amazing to wake up each morning to see giraffes and other animals right outisde our window. The second time we didn't have quite as good a view but we still were able to see some animals.
The pool was amazing we were there in December both times and didn't go to the pool but it was a nice place to eat at when we went for quick service.
Loved the food, Boma was fantastic, we have eaten there probably 10 times now. Best breakfast anywhere and they were really nice on our honeymoon bringing us a special dessert breakfast. The quick service isn't nearly as good but will suffice for quick meals.

I really enjoyed this resort! The Savannah view rooms are worth the extra money and really are the only way to go if staying at this resort. I am not sure if you can get a Savannah view room without staying concierge but believe me it is well worth it.
We found ourselves spending a lot more time relaxing on our balcony.
Pool area was very nice with a lot of quiet spots that are tucked away.

This is truly a remarkable resort.
First, the architecture, ambiance, and atmosphere (including the African music and scents in the lobby) are just amazing. We truly felt transported out of a theme park resort and into something magical.
We stayed here in April 2009, Club Level. While our room wasn't as large as we are accustomed to, it was definitely adequate. The views of the Arusha Savanna and the all of the animals out there was magnificent.
There are excellent restaurants here: Mara, Boma, and Jiko.
The common areas, like the lobby, the shop, and the many savanna overlooks are all really great. The pool is huge and a fun place to unwind.
The bus transportation was very good and direct (not shared with any other resorts). That more than made up for the couple of extra minutes of driving because AKL is farther away from some of the parks.
The club lounge was one of the nicest we have had access to, and the food offerings were fantastic. We tried the Sunrise Safari at AK for CL guests, and it was the highlight of our trip.
We will definitely be making plans to stay here again!

We have stayed at AKL twice now and will stay there again. The theming is amazing and we never get tired of seeing the animals. This is the lowest cost Deluxe resort at Disney, and the animals only add to the value. The biggest complaints I hear are about the transportation system, and while the bus rides to MK and Epcot are a bit long, at least the busses at AKL are dedicated to that resort alone. So, in reality, you probably spend the same amount of time with transportation as you would staying at one of the Epcot resorts, which all share 1 bus. We usually eat at Mara for breakfast and dinner, and the gift shop is fantastic. If I had the money, I'd buy into DVC here!

I love this resort. I will be staying there for my third time in September. It is amazing from the minute you drive up to it. The lobby is amazing, the pool is awesome. The rooms are a bit small and dark, but I don't spend that much time in the room. The rooms could use an update, like flat screen tv's, replace some worn light fixtures, carpets, and curtains. Overall I love this place and can't wait to go again.

We had a standard room overlooking the inner savanna, third floor. The amazing thing is that we were able to watch the giraffes from the bed.
Remember to pack a binocular if you want to see all the details, like when early in the morning it's feeding time and all the animals gather around the feeder's truck.
I had the most wonderful memories at that hotel!
Very romantic, but also highly recommended for families with kids

Your Magic Express Bus drives up the drive and you are just in awe. The buildings the landscaping are wonderful. You walk into the lobby and you feel like you are transported to Africa. The music is wonderul. The lobby is amazing. The savvanahs are wonderful to just look out your window and see all the animals. Especially in the early morning when they are a little more active. The night vision goggles were a nice experience. The pool area is beautiful. The food court was good and so was Boma. We didn't get to try Jekos. I highly recomment

I really liked this resort. It was nice to wake up in the morning and see animals from your room. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Bus transportation was timely and easy to use. Food court could have a have more options. Other than that - not a bad place to stay. I better say that since I just bought into DVC here.

We stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge in a savannah view room for 21 nights in April/May 2008. We were loved everything about this resort (except the airconditionning was too cold).
Our room was fantastic, we had a fantastic view, with lots of animals. The room had bunk beds a very comfortable queen bed and was clean and a great size.
The restaurants were all great. We ate several meals at all three restaurants, Mara, Boma and Jiko on our trip and we did not have a bad meal. The cast members were always friendly and with one in our group having a life threatening allergy, this was handled very well on every single occasion with absolutely no trouble.
The cast members were all very friendly and helpful, from check in, concierge, bell services to the restaurants.
The lobby is amazing and almost breath taking when you walk in the first time. The shop is great for souvenirs and any little supplies, snacks that you may need. I have heard some complain about the resort being away from everything else and most of the parks but we didn't have a problem with this. The buses were very regular and they are not shared with any other resort.
The pool and games area, located near Mara restaurant were great also.
We can highly recommend this resort and would definately return on our next visit to WDW.

Animal Kingdom is our favorite resort thus far. Location is not great but bus service largely makes up for this. We do not like Boma or Mara and did get to try Jiko though we are certainly in the minority in our dislike of Boma.

If you spend more time in your room in the morning and evening or if a member of your party like to rest some, then this place is for you. The ever changing sight of animals on the savanah will keep any animal lover interested...not to mention Jilko and Bomba, the two restaurants.

I was a little concened about how far away the resort is from most theme parks and entertainment. My concerns were forgotten as soon as I walked into the massive lobby. WOW! It blew me away. My kids enjoyed watching the animals on the savanna at night with night vision goggles. With Jiko, Boma's, and Mara, any type of appetite you have can be fulfilled. Very large pool and poolbar. I will definitely stay here again (June 2009)!

This is one of the most unique resorts in WDW. No where else can you wake up and see exotic animals from your balcony. The resort amenities are also great including the beautiful pool. The restaurants are great - especially Boma. Even the quick service location - The Mara - is great.

We were upgraded to concierge, pool view. The king room was expansive. We love the proximity to Jiko. The pool is gorgeous and spacious. Of course, the animals are a great draw. I travel a lot for work and have had the fortune in staying in a five star hotel, but Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge is the only hotel that has rendered me speechless when I walked into the lobby. It is a shame that Disney had to locate this resort where it did. The only thing keeping this resort from being the best resort on property in my opinion is the location. Still it is definitely worth staying there.

We stayed here in Oct 08, CL,because we received a 40% off code. The lounge was great, the food options were fantastic. The Sunrise Safari is what made the entire stay amazing! No way would I stay at AKL without staying CL.
The first night we were in a standard villa room on the 5th floor and it was great, super clean and quiet and new and just awesome.
The next day we moved to our CL room on the 4th floor zebra trail. The room was much smaller, no where near as clean and had a handicapped bathroom....which was huge but not what we wanted. Sadly they could not move us to another room. The worst was the construction that was going on...and I specifically asked the IPO for 2 weeks leading up to our stay if there was work going on. The interior halls were being painted and the smell was awfu. The entire outside of the zebra trail was being worked on so construction guys were out at 8am and did not stop until 5pm
Jiko and Boma breakfast were incredible!
The noise level of the lobby at all times of the day and night is ridiculous....no way can you just hang and relax at this resort, it will make you crazy.
Buses were great but it takes a long time to get to any other place besides AK.

Last week we stayed at AKL - Jambo House for the second time. In our previous visit, we loved the theme of the lodge, the fire pit, activities and didn't mind the location at all.
Since we loved the lodge so much during a Dec 2007 visit, we decided to return and upgrade to Club Level. While we still loved the resort itself and activities, we won't be returning. With the opening of Kidani Village the bus service has gone downhill quickly.
Now, let me say, that we've stayed many places on property - from values to other club levels at deluxes and ALWAYS use Disney transportation. One of the perks of staying on property for us is the ability to park our car and forget about it for a week. We've used buses at every resort we've stayed at, and other than the occasional long wait, we've been very satisfied.
With the addition of Kidani Village, all theme park buses now pick up at Kidani before going to Jambo house (downtown disney is the only one to pick up at Jambo first). Since the change, we were on Standing Room buses EVERY time we were picked up at Jambo House, and nearly always filled the bus - causing people to be left behind. Many times, up to 15 people remained at the bus stop, waiting for the next bus. On the return trip, going to Kidani added at least 10 to 15 minutes to the trip -even though its only about 1/2 mile to 1 mile away. Between loading and unloading, and many times sitting idle at the bus stop for a few minutes, the trip just seemed too long at the end of the day.
The previously manageable bus trip just tipped over the edge for us with the route to Kidani.
Now on to the good things:
* We loved the club level offerings and food. The service as well was great!
* Loved our room and the view of the animals - only downside is that we were on the 4th floor, very far from the lounge. This made it hard to just "drop in" to the lounge for a quick snack or drink
* Finally got to take the Culinary tour - we highly recommend it. Sampled soups and Zebra domes at Boma, and the Taste of Africa at Jiko. Even the kids, 9 and 12 loved it! Can't wait to eat at Boma again!
* Finally saw the story telling by the fire pit. Great experience with a high-energy cast member. Everyone should try this once!
Overall, I love to visit here, and would definitely do a dinner here. Will not stay here again, unless our other favorite resorts are all full OR they make drastic changes to the buses...

I just want to give a little review of one of the activities offered at the AKL- the Culinary Tour. I believe this is offered every day, or at least most days. Check the board of resort activities in the lobby or watch your resort information channel on TV for the exact time. On this day it was at 4pm. We met in the bar area of Jiko and watched with envy as the Culinary Safari people headed out on their expedition. (That tour is not free! That tour takes a small group out on the savannah in an open jeep-type. They tour the savannahs and enjoy a Jiko meal packed in a basket.)
We had a pretty good sized group for our tour- about 20 people. (I was so worried I would be the only one!) Our guide first walked us through Jiko, then through Boma, pointing out hidden Mickeys and different architectural details that we may not notice on our own. In Jiko, we sat down and one of the chefs put out baskets with 3 different breads and 3 different dips. She explained what each one was and what African spices were used. They were all delicious and I’m not sure I would’ve tried them on my own.
The chef who guided us through Boma didn’t seem as happy to be showing us around but then again it was almost time for the restaurant to open so I’m sure she had other things on her mind! As we were leaving, some of the Boma cast members were preparing to open and were all lined up with drums and other instruments. We lingered awhile and listed to them play and sing. This little tour was only about 30-40 minutes long and was a nice diversion from all the things I normally do at WDW. The point of it is to get you to come back and dine in Jiko or Boma. From what I understand, they don’t always serve you samples but you may luck out like I did! I enjoyed learning some trivia about the restaurants and having a chance to learn a little something about African cuisine.

If you spend much time in your room, then the savannah views cannot be beat. If you are only in your room to sleep, it is harder to justify the extra expense. The lobby is magnificent and should be witnessed, even if not staying at the resort. There are a number of interesting displays throughout the public areas of the resort.

This was my first stay in a deluxe and I was lucky enough to actually be staying there on business, so it wasn't costing me a dime! I had toured the resort prior to my stay, so I knew what to expect, but staying there was another story. Being fully immersed in the beautiful atmosphere just was so special. The lobby is gorgeous and we really enjoyed exploring and sitting and people watching. I also enjoyed many a drink with friends at the lounge/bar. It was so relaxing and laid back. our room was great too- the layout was very comfortable for my husband and I, and we loved the bathroom and patio. Our room location was at the very end of the hall, so it was quite a walk to our room each day. That was my only real complaint. My DH, who is not a disney person, was thrilled with the AKL and I think he will always want to stay deluxe from now on (we usually do mods). He was impressed to say the least. We also enjoyed the great restaurants offered on site and the Mara was a great counter service option. However, we were a little put off by the odd layout- having to go outside to get to it, unless I missed a secret door or something? While it wasn't out of the way, it was just a bit odd. Overall our stay was fabulous and we hope to be back again soon!

My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon and we had an absolutely wonderful time. We were a little worried on the first day, however - we came to see animals out of our room and the only animals we saw were pelicans. 
By the start of the second day we saw plenty of animals, though.
We stayed concierge and did the early-entry Kilimanjaro Safari - which was an experience we'll never forget. With the concierge came the lounge, which we thought was just amazing. There was always food, juice, beer, and wine in the lounge whenever we walked by.
The food was pretty darn good. Jiko should be on everyone's short list. We heard a lot about Boma but just didn't care for it. Also, we thought the counter service was pretty good.
The pool area was beautiful - we had a great time taking a morning and lounging by the pool; waiting for the pool bar to open.

Our trip to the Animal Kingdom Lodge got off to a bumpy start initially. We booked a Savannah View Room in Jambo House but not one of the Disney Vacation Club rooms (the 5th and 6th floors of Jambo House are DVC rooms). We had never stayed at the AKL before and were very excited at the idea of the Savannah View. Upon doing some research, I found there are three different savannahs: Uzima (this one is by the pool), Arusha (this is the central one that can be seen through the giant window at the end of the main lobby) and Sunset (this one is actually now being shared with Animal Kingdom's Kidanni Village Resort. I discovered that some animals, like the giraffes, are the same on all three savannahs. However, some savannahs have animals that are unique just to them. For instance, the Sunset Savannah is the only savannah with ostriches. Initially, I let my son pick which savannah he wanted and he chose the Sunset Savannah.
I arrived to check in at 6:30am and was greeted by a very pleasant cast member who took down my two rooms requests: Sunset Savannah and 4th floor. I wanted to be on the highest floor available that wasn't DVC. I left the front desk my cell phone number and opted for a voice message alert for when our room was ready. They give you the option to receive a text message as well. Once I checked in and got my family from another resort (we were doing a split stay), we caught the bus over to the Animal Kingdom park. The bus left Jambo House and travelled to Kidani next. Even though this was an early morning jaunt, the bus got filled to the point where riders were forced to stand. But, that's Disney in the summer! We had fun in Animal Kingdom and after lunch, at about 1:15pm, I got the call that the room was ready. It was an automated message that included our room number. I was given just what I asked for, too. We had a room on the 4th floor overlooking (barely) the Sunset Savannah.
This room's view was not satisfactory, to me, at all. It is off the Ostrich Trail part of the resort, but our room was still very close to the main building. A quick Google search can net a detailed map of the resort. For those interested, we were initially given room 4124. Due to this room being so close to the main building, it was like being in a cul de sac. The main building had huge exhaust fans (I think they might have been part of a restaurant like Mara) that made a rather loud noise continually. Also, the next wing of the lodge was right across the way. So, when looking out from our balcony, you saw the other wing of the lodge not far away and to the right, the main body of the lodge with the noisy ventilation fans. We did see a few ostrich, but suffice it to say that this is not the view you would picture in your mind when you think of a Savannah View room at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. I was already planning to make a request for a room change when I found that a previous occupant had sprayed soda all over the bathroom wall. There was Coke all over the wallpaper and even on the ceiling in the bathroom. This was my golden ticket! I called the front desk and requested to be moved to the Arusha Savannah and to another 4th floor room. At first, the front desk asked if we would be willing to stay in the room if they sent a cleaning detail up immediately. I said that I would rather just be given a new room and I also politely let them know that we'd prefer a different Savannah View room. After being on hold for only two minutes, I was asked to return to the front desk to receive my new room assignment.
We were given a 3rd floor room, 3321, off the Kudu Trail overlooking the Arusha Savannah. All I can say about this room is that THIS is exactly what I pictured when I envisioned a Savannah View room! This room was perfect. We had a view of the main savannah and, even though there were no ostriches here, this is only savannah with zebra. From our balcony, we could see zebra, giraffe, pelicans, greater kudu, ankole cattle and more. It was absolutely perfect! At night, the lodge lit the savannah to simulate the moonlight of a full moon. The animals were visible and active both day and night. In fact, our view was so amazing, we opted to stay at the resort more than we probably normally would. There was nothing like having a cup of coffee, day or night, and sitting on the patio watching the animals. We were even treated to a lightning storm one night. That was pretty cool!
The main lobby was breathtaking. It is full of African artwork and culture. I spent time in the mornings, before the hotel really got hustling and bustling, shooting video of the artwork. Early morning is a great time to take video or pictures of the resort. The people behind the front desk were genuinely friendly and helpful. I had nothing but excellent customer service when I requested a room change. They were also quick to answer any questions I had regarding any facet of my vacation. Off the main lobby, there was a gift shop that also sold some grocery staples (this would be more for the people who have DVC rooms with toasters, microwaves and full kitchens). The gift shop is really large and had just about anything you could possibly want! The resort also has a pool, a game room and several dining options from Quick Service to Signature Dining. The game room was about the average size for a WDW game room. It had several different current video games. In fact, one thing I noticed in all the game rooms we visited that I didn't see there during our last trip in December 2008 was the addition of a Guitar Hero game. My son loved that and he and I did some head to head rockin' action! Fun! We never used the pool at Jambo House, but I did check it out. It is a HUGE free-form pool with a zero-entry end and a water slide. The water slide was decent. It wasn't as short as the water slide at the Wilderness Lodge, but it wasn't as long or fun as the slide at the Beach Club either. Basically the slide was about two corkscrews and then a short straight away into the pool.
Part of the reason for the 3/5 for my cleanliness rating for this resort was due to the fact that housekeeping turned over a room that had Coke sprayed all over the wall and ceiling. The other reason was due to the condition of the Mara Food Court. When we checked into the lodge on our first day, we ate lunch at the Mara and it was a mess. Almost every available table was in dire need of being bussed. We did not find one clean table. We had to take some napkins and clean it ourselves. That also involved sweeping food out of the chairs, too. It wasn't slammed with people, either. We were eating a late lunch. I'd say the dining room area was about half full, but I only saw one person who looked like she was attempting to work that area. Every morning (at about 6:30-6:45), I would take our resort mugs down to get coffee only to find the drink area awash in puddles of soda, coffee, spilt sugar, etc. There was never anywhere to set my cups down because they would get dirty. This was also right when the Mara opened, too. So it was nasty from open to close. Due to that, we only ate there twice. Once on our first day and once on our last day. Cleanliness aside, the Mara serves fare similar to Roaring Forks at the Wilderness Lodge. You have your requisite flatbreads, chicken strips, burgers and such. However, they did offer other sandwiches and two African inspired dishes (one was a stew served in a bread bowl and the other was a falafel pita sandwich). I had flatbread both times and it was nothing special. It wasn't bad, but I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to eat here.
We also at at the other two restaurants: Boma and Jiko. We LOVED both. Boma is definitely a crazy place when it gets busy. The restaurant is loud and a little chaotic at the check in. Boma got so busy that they opened a check in counter in the front lobby immediately to the left when you walk in. Normally, this area is for airline check-in, but I understood why they were checking guests in upstairs once we got down to the restaurant. There is not a large waiting area at all for this restaurant. There are a few benches and that's it. There is a bar located up a flight of stairs that overlooks the restaurant, but other than that, guests just mill around the check-in desk and that creates a bottleneck. Also, there didn't seem to be any distinguishable line to get to cast member to check in. People just kind of mob the desk. I feel sorry for the cast members that work that area! Anyhow, once you get past the daunting procedure of checking in (you definitely need and ADR for this restaurant!), you should be fine. We had a table towards the back of the restaurant, so the noise was a little less pronounced. Be advised there's a lot of foot traffic in this restaurant. There are multiple pods of buffet tables and so people are always up and about and moving in between tables. In that regard, I loved sitting in the back because it kept us away from all that traffic. Anyhow, there was a huge variety of food here and, believe me, I attempted to try all of it! Everything I tried was fantastic! A lot of the foods were spicy, but not hot. There were also some simple foods for those less adventurous. Our waitress was fantastic, too! She kept our table bussed and our drinks refilled before they ever ran out. We never had empty, used plates sitting on our table for long at all. She was definitely on the ball. I would highly recommend being adventurous here and trying the different foods - especially the African offerings!
We also dined at Jiko twice. This is my wife's favorite restaurant. Both times we dined there, the atmosphere was elegant yet still casual. The food was impeccable and the service was absolutely professional. In my opinion, the servers at Jiko and California Grill are some of the best on WDW property - as well as the food! By the way, menus for all the Disney restaurants can be found at Allears.net or Disboards.com. The cuisine at Jiko is African inspired and very fresh. I tried the Barbecue Beef Short Ribs with roasted yukon gold potato salad and onion-garlic sauce. The rib (I say rib because it was just one HUGE rib) had been rubbed with a Kenyan coffee barbecue sauce prior to cooking. It was melt-in-your-mouth delicious! This looked more like a roast when they put the dish down in front of me! There was one very large flat rib and then, with my fork, I pulled the meat off from around it. The meat was tender and delicious. It wasn't fatty at all, either. I'd order this again in a heartbeat!. The second time we dined there, I ordered Roasted Lamb Loin with herbed cous cous, figs, sun-dried cherries and red curry sauce. The cous cous was A-mazing! It was a perfect combination with the lamb. Also, the red curry sauce was flavorful but not overpowering or overly spicy. The waiter did an outstanding job of describing this dish to me. On this particular night, my son ordered the Oak-Grilled Filet Mignon with Macaroni & Cheese and Red Wine Sauce. He didn't finish it and I couldn't resist trying it. The filet was so buttery tender, it would've been delicious by itself. However, paired with the macaroni and the red wine sauce, it went to a new level. I highly recommend this dish. My wife ordered Maize-crusted Pacific Halibut with Vegetables of the Moment and Tomato-Butter Sauce both nights and declared it her favorite meal of the trip. Jiko is highly recommended for an outstanding meal and a great break from the din of the theme parks. It's a fantastic way to end a day at Walt Disney World.
All in all, the Animal Kingdom Lodge is an amazing resort that offers guests one of the most immersive themed experiences in all of Disney World. I can think of no other resort where guests will actually feel as transported as they do at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. From viewing animals on the Savannah to dining on African-inspired cuisine. The Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of the best Deluxe resorts on property and is most definitely one of our favorite Disney resorts.

We checked in on May 9, having arrived relatively early. Our flight landed at about 9:30, and we were at the Lodge for check in at about 11.
We had used online check in. The area to pick up your welcome packet wasn't labeled very clearly, so we had to search a bit. In the end, we couldn't find it, but the regular line wasn't bad at all, so we just got in line. We were escorted to the end of the counter where the online check in sign had been turned around so you couldn't really see it.
Our room wasn't ready, so we left out bags with bell services, and headed out to the parks. We called a couple times, but our room was ready at about 1:00, so we headed back to the Lodge.
The only request I had noted was to overlook the Arusha savannah. We weren't overlooking that savanna. Instead, we overlooked the portion of the sunset savannah that had Impala. We could also see Kidani Village. It was a FANTASTIC view! We had giraffe just outside of our window. My only complaint is that the room was an extreme walk from the lobby. We also had a car. I was not pleased with how far the parking was from the Lodge - a problem not isolated to the Animal Kingdom Lodge.
But I digress. We called Bell Services and somebody brought up out luggage within minutes. He was extremely pleasant and friendly.
The room was spotless and the beds were very comfy. Everything was in good repair - faucets, toilet, tub, fridge, phone, alarm clock - everything worked as it should have.
My only two complaints were minor in comparison to everything we enjoyed about the Lodge. As had been previously mentioned, the distance of the self-parking from the resort was an inconvenience. Also, I would have preferred a slightly larger room. Our room location was also pretty far from the lobby. We didn't spend much time in the parks, but it could definitely be problematic afer a day of pounding pavement in the Florida heat.

We have had two excellent stays at this hotel (June 2006 & January 2009). My 6 year old daughter declared this her favorite hotel in the whole world upon arrival!
Our first visit we were able to get a savannah view and it was amazing to sit on the balcony and watch the animals graze while eating our breakfast each morning. On our most recent trip, we opted for a pool view to save some money and although I was concerned, it didn't detract from our stay at all. The grounds around the pool are beautiful and very lush, so the view was still excellent.
Rooms are very nice and clean. Tt does get very dark there at night so bring a nightlight if that might bother you or your kids. I swear I've had my best sleep at this hotel because it's so dark and quiet! We had plenty of room with two double beds and a full size crib that we rented from an outside company.
We only had minor hiccups during our last stay. We checked in on the Thursday evening of Marathon weekend and had to wait in a very long, slowing-moving line to check in. There were only a few spots open at the check in desk and it seemed like they should have been better prepared for all the guests arriving that evening. The hotel was pretty full for the weekend, but aside from checking in, we never felt crowded. I had ordered a crib from A Baby's Best Friend and asked at the check-in desk if it had arrived. The cast member helping me seemed confused with that and took a quick look in the back and declared that it had not arrived. Once we got to our room I called bell services and they were able to locate it with no problem.
The only other con for us was the variety at the food court. It just didn't seem like they had very many offerings, so after several days the the menu got old.
But, all in all, we think the AKL is an excellent hotel and reasonably priced for a deluxe. The kids (6 and 2) found plenty to do around the hotel while dad rested after the marathon. Bus service was great and we had no issues with the distance between this hotel and the theme parks. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

We stayed for 6 nights at AKL in January 2009. We have previously stayed at the Beach Club Villas and the Wilderness Lodge Villas. WL was our favorite going into this trip, and I didn't expect to change my mind. I was wrong. AKL is hands-down my favorite WDW Resort.
We had two connecting Savannah view rooms. We had asked for Arusha Savannah, but were assigned to Uzima instead. I was disappointed, but I needn't have been. Turns out the view from our Uzima room was very compelling - lots of giraffes and ankole cattle, plus zebras nearby. One of the problems with AKL is that the views are SO compelling it's hard to get ready and out of the room. Every 5 minutes, you're checking outside to see how the view has changed!
We loved the restaurants. The Mara is a cut above the CS options at WL, and infinitely better than what's available at Beach Club. They have some of the soups that are featured at Boma, plus some delicious "take and go" hummuses, and the flatbreads are fresh and delicious. Boma far exceeded my expectations. Jiko is good, but not great. The appetizers are by far the best part of the meal there.
Public areas in the resort are just wonderfully themed. Almost all of the CMs we encountered were welcoming and informative.
When we had an issue with upstairs neighbors making excessive noise, we were eventually moved to a new room (overlooking Arusha this time, and let me tell you, the Uzima view was far superior). It took 3 nights of complaining before we were moved, but in the hotel's defense, they did try warning the upstairs neighbors first. Probably helped for all of 10 minutes, but I can't blame the hotel for the behaviour of their guests.
There was only one minor glitch with bus service, but it was quickly remedied. DHS had early EMH one morning, but the buses coming were for the other parks and NOT DHS. When this was mentioned to one of the bus drivers (who had no takers for his bus since the park he was going to wouldn't open for another 2 hours), he changed the destination and took us to DHS. NICE!
The gift shop had such interesting and non-typical souvenirs. The selection of South African wines was a treat.
The FREE kids' activities at the resort were top-notch. We did the free cookie decorating at Boma, the medallion rubbings, decorated a rubber duck for duck races, etc. We also did the culinary tour of Africa (really a tour of Boma and Jiko), and enjoyed tasting the Potato Bacon Soup and the appetizers at Jiko.
The pool is BIG. The zero entry area is nice, and my daughter loved the slide. This pool is certainly not as elaborate as the one at Beach Club, but we swam only once for about an hour, so it wasn't an issue for us.
Overall, no complaints and we would be THRILLED to return. The thing that's so hard to describe is that it just feels like a faraway place. Like you've been transported outside of Themeparkcity, USA and to a really exotic and beautiful place. I wholeheartedly recommend this resort.

I stayed at the animal kingdom lodge from 11th oct until 19th oct, me and my new husband got married on the 14th oct, our wedding was great.
On the 15th oct we went out early to go to sea world, when we got back we discovered that the housekeeping staff had took half of our wedding cake, may i add that it was wiv their hands, there was finger marks in our cake.
we went to see the manager he actually said to us that iam supprised that she didn't take all the cake. i said she may as well have as wee couldn't eat it now after her touching it after cleaning toilets, he offered us $50 which is taking the biscuit!!! it took us 3 days to get any resonasble compensation, i may add this housekeeper was still working on our floor, we put the privicy sign on the door as there was no way we were letting that women in touching our stuff! she also binned our wedding champayne and touch my wedding items on table!
find the animal kingdom over rated, charge a fortune of safari tour $210 when you pay loads to stay there in first place, when bush gardens only charge $35. the savana view was mis repreentated, there is actually electric fence all around so they cant get close where in the broucure the family are feeding the giraffes!!!!!!!
The food is over priced and the main area of hotel is dingy and dark! my husband smokes and we had to go all the way to idrive for him to get cigerettes.
we stayed in holiday inn on idrive first 2weeks of our holiday, they are a million times better than staff at animal kingdom!!!!!!!!!
