One of Walt Disney World's three moderately priced resorts, Port Orleans Riverside STANDS OUT among its counterparts, offering a deluxe resort feel on a moderate budget. Theming of this exceptional resort offers a room choice of southern mansion elegance or cozy bayou cottage. Riverside boasts the availability of six swimming pools with five having a convenient laundry in each pool's bathhouse. Riverside Mill, the resort food court is the place to go for excellent service with a great variety of food choices, including outstanding gourmet pasta. The dining area feels less like a cafeteria, too! Nearby, you'll find Boatwright's Dining Hall, a friendly, high-quality restaurant serving up southern comfort meals in a family-friendly setting. Boatwright's prime rib was some of the best we have ever enjoyed. The River Roost Lounge has a cozy feel, complete with a fireplace and plenty of comfortable chairs. An added bonus to the River Roost is one of Disney's treasures: piano bar perfomer Bob Jackson (a.k.a. Yeeha Bob!); this colorful performer makes memories, entertaining and involving all ages. You'll find boat and bicycle rentals, as well as horse and carriage rides at Riverside's Marina, plussing the fun in an intimate setting that invites exploration of the winding paths and waterways of the entire Port Orleans resort area. In addition, this southern-style marina provides resort boat service along the Sassagoula River to Port Orleans French Quarter and Downtown Disney, with connecting boats to Saratoga Springs and Downtown Disney's West Side. There's even a fishing hole for avid anglers! We found our room in the Alligator Bayou to have almost a cabin-feel, surrounded by trees and marshes. The service at this resort was above exceptional and its location places it conveniently close to Disney delights. As a part of the Port Orleans Resort, Riverside guests can enjoy the amenities of the nearby French Quarter. We love Disney's deluxe resorts, but can't always afford them. Port Orleans Riverside is our new favorite place to go for affordability and a deluxe experience!

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Beautiful Grounds, good service, good location for a moderated resort Cons: Bus service-departure from resort wait can be long and bus crowded, departure from parks can be long & crowded.
I have stayed at POR 4 times since 1994 and have enjoyed this resort each time.

Resort would be perfect if you spend a lot of time in the resort area. If you spend a lot of time on the go and just sleep at the resort, a value resort would be a much better option. Way to big of a resort after a long day at the parks. Not only is it a long distance to bus stops, your buses will stop at four or five stops before you are heading to the parks or reach your Home stop when returning from the parks. Our room was too far from the main lobby.
Boat ride to Downtown Disney was wonderful

Very nice place..Just to darn spread out. And needs more food choices. Not enough to keep the average family satisfied.

we love Port Orleans Riverside because of it's beautiful grounds, size, the river, and the pool area. it's a great place to go for a walk along the river or take a riverboat cruise to downtown Disney for shopping or dinner and drinks, or just to enjoy the scenery. The pool is great with a big slide for the kids and adults who still feel like a kid sometimes. They also have a good food court with a decent variety if you don't feel like leaving the resort. you can also go fishing or take a horse and carriage ride. : Posted via eTicket

2nd stay @ POR (Dec. 2008 & Dec. 2009). This time introduced my sis & her family to the POR and they loved it just as much as we did. Room requests were accomodated for a corner room + adjoining room + water view rooms. Great fun to decorate the windows for Christmas, outdoor corridors, which makes the water view rooms especially nice. Mousekeeping was wonderful. Maintenance was at our room within 15 min. not only to repair but to replace our ceiling fan. Transportation on boat to POFQ & DTD is such a relaxing ride. We took a boat ride to the POFQ to enjoy the beignets and strolled through the grounds, which was very nice. Food court was exceptional. When the regular Dinning room was extra busy (at breakfast & lunch),they used the dinning room for Boatwrights for aditional seating. The variety of food in the Food Court was exceptional. Boatwrights is #1 in my book. We have stayed at all the Deluxe resorts, including the Club levels and we will return to the POR. It has become our favorite. You can't beat the value.

Great resort if you like the Orleans Square at Disneyland. Has the same feel. Very spread out and a perfect resort to take a stroll and admire the southern landscaping. Reminds you of a southern planation. Very nice with the river and ferry boats going by. Nice to be able to catch a ferry to downtown disney. A nice way to travel to dinner at Downtown Disney.

It pains me to give this resort a high rating because I don't want anyone else to know how great it is. What an outstanding resort. We stayed at this resort with our 2 kids from May 27th to May 30th for our 10 year anniversary. We live a little over an hour from Disney so we have stayed in the value resorts on numerous occasions but this was our first time staying in a moderate resort. I think I'm hooked. POR is absolutely beautiful, quiet and offers so much for kids of all ages. We did the carriage ride to French Quarter for the whole family and the Bayou Cruise for my oldest. We had the option of renting a surrey bike or boats at the marina. There's a piano entertainer named YeeHa Bob that performs Wednesday through Saturday but unless you get a dinner in the River Roost area and stay at the table until he performs at 8:30pm, be prepared to stand. The lack of space in this area is the only negative we experienced.
We stayed in the Magnolia Terrace mansion of Magnolia Bend. We were in room 8912 and did not experience one single problem with mousekeeping. When we got to the room, the carpet had just been steam cleaned and the employee was getting his things together. He apologized for how he was in our way from getting in the room. Dude, seriously?!?!? We thanked him for making the place spotless. This was just a prelude to the service we received from mousekeeping on our trip. Around 11:30 pm the night before our check-out, my oldest daughter got sick. She spewed all over the pillows and linen of her bed. I called the front desk and received, what I felt to be, a sincere well wish for my daughter from the cast member and was told she would summon mousekeeping. We waited about 10 minutes and a young college student working at Disney showed up to exchange all the linen. Although it, technically, was his job to do it, he did it with care and did not rush though it. Not once did I feel it was a bother, even though I know it was not something pleasant to do.
If I had to give POR one negative, it was the breakfast we chose. We only ate there one day and we ordered the bounty breakfast. The food was your typical fast food type in quality but the quantity is what I found to be poor. For nearly a $9 plate, the portion was that of a $5 plate. Although this was a negative at the time, it is also something we could have avoided and learned from had we eaten there on other days. There are other options to choose from that would have better suited us.
The ONLY reasons I wouldn't give this a 10 is because of the 2 reasons mentioned prior and the fact that I have not visited any of the other moderate resorts. We thouroughly enjoyed our stay but do not have any other moderate resort to compare it to. We most definitely recommend POR and do not see ourselves staying at a value resort again.

First time staying here.
We requested: Mansions, 3rd floor, two beds (sisters) far from main building.
We were booked in: Alligator Bayou, first floor, one king-size bed, far from main bldg.
This was happily and quickly corrected at check-in to exactly what we asked for.
The room was lovely, clean. Mousekeeping did the usual good job.
The Riverside Mill food court was raved about but I thought it was no better than Pop Century, having said that it was perfectly fine when we did eat there twice. Nice for adults to be able to buy beer from the cooler.
Boatwright's Hall was excellent both times we ate there, service and food wonderful (chowder and fish dishes) It was nice to relax in the River Roost and have a beer.
We didn't use the pool but it was much more busy than any resort pool where we've stayed- even in the middle of the day. It looked great!
All in all, we said we were going to spend more time at the resort this trip and so selected the resort for that reason. As usual we left at 7am and came back at 12-1am!! The quiet pool next to our Acadia House Mansion was wonderfully empty and very much enjoyed at 1am after a long day at the parks.

Resort is huge...prepare to do a lot of walking. Pay attention to where your bus stop is as there are four for this resort. Our room keys stopped working on our 2nd of 8 days, including my ticket. I spent most of my time in guest services at the parks and at the resort with no one taking responsibility or helping to resolve the problem. Managers are not readily available to speak with guests in these instances. Last night of our vacation a guest was struck and killed by a WDW bus in front of the resort. Finally after 4 weeks had passed, I got my complaint heard by the Disney Company. In total my husband and I have been to Disney a combined 27 times and never had any issues until we stayed at this resort. We are planning our 2nd trip in 6 months to WDW but we will never ever stay at this resort again. Spend a little more on your resort...you get what you pay for.

I had high hopes for this resort. It had been recommended as a deluxe-quality resort for moderate prices. I generally stay in value hotels, because I'm usually on my own and all rooms are spacious when you don't have to share. While the resort area is beautiful, the room itself was dirty and not well maintained. There were scuff marks and chipped paint in both rooms (bedroom and bathroom). The shower tap was broken, so I reported it at about 10am. When I returned to the room after 10pm that night, nothing had been done, so I had to wait while maintenance came out, determined that the entire tap had to be replaced, the replacement part had to be retrieved, then replaced. I enjoyed the views, especially on my morning run, and I'm sure the boat ride to Downtown Disney is wonderful when it's not so cold (I stayed in January 2012). I had no issues with the transportation or the food, which was perfectly adequate for a food court. I wouldn't recommend against this hotel if someone wanted a good place to go for a run in the mornings, but there are nicer moderates and the values have more than enough space to suit me and most families of four or less.

My daughters and I stayed her 1st September 11 through to 8th we have stayed here 3 times before and so obviously are fans . Our room was 2655 aprox 10 min stroll to food court and 5 min walk to bus stop. Lovely clean comfortable room on 1st floor . Quiet pool 3 mins walk and 5 mins to Ole man island. We had the qsdp included which was fantastic value and our fridge(Inc in room) quickly filled up with desserts we couldn't eat:) we also had refillable mugs which came in very handy. Food court produce lots of choice and staff very helpful with dining plan boat transport to DTD only complaint was we we were there for 7 days not enough time to do everything

It was my families first time staying in a Disney resort and our kids first time to Florida. We stayed from the 1st Nov 2011 to 15th Nov 2011. We had an extremely long journey but when we arrived we were blown away with tranquility and stunning surroundings.It was perfect.
Our son has cerebral palsy and some social learning problems and we needed somewhere calm and relaxed so that after a fun day at the parks he would be able to calm down. We did have one glitch that the room request wasn't noted, however this was quickly resolved.
As an English family we would say it was like a Disney version of the Lake district, lots of wildlife around,plenty of green and lots water :D
I highly recommend this resort, it's a moderate resort but often there is a dinning plan deal so it's worth the little extra to get the dinning plan. The rooms are generous, you're not falling over every one to get around the beds are extremely comfy, the bathroom is good and there is plenty of storage space.Like most Disney places the staff are extremely friendly and polite.
This resort has an abundance of recreational activities so if decided to spend the day relaxing at the resort there are still things to do.... fishing, hire a boat, hire a bike, go for a walk along the river, poolside entertainment, arcade and in the evening you can sit out under the stars and watch a Disney movie.A perfect way to end your day.

Me and my husband stayed here Feb 12-17 2012 and had the most amazing time. I was a little worried about the reviews I had read but I am so glad I went with my gut and stayed here. The grounds gave you the feeling of relaxation and pure bliss. We stayed in alligator bayou lodge 35. It wasn't updated at the time but you wouldn't have ever known. The room was super clean and had no issues with anything concerning. We had a great location near the pool and west depot with a short walk to the lobby. Never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a bus to anywhere. I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. Just absolutely loved it.

This was our first time staying at this moderate, but we will definitely be back! We loved the peaceful walk back and forth from the food court and pool, or even just walking back from the bus stop. No one had trouble finding things to eat at the food court, and I especially enjoyed the make-your-own salad option. The cast members we interacted with were very friendly and helpful, and everything was very clean. There were even options for entertainment. Yeehaw Bob was fun for everyone on the nights he entertained. We'd never taken part in the pool side entertainment at any of the other resorts we stayed at, but were able to here. My kids (ages 11, 8, and 4) were all engaged and able to participate. There were nightly movies, as well, which just happened to be right outside our building. The only issue we had in the five days we stayed was the wait we had for the buses on two days in particular - we couldn't figure out why the buses ran so well some days and so poorly on other days. All in all, we can't wait to stay at POR again for our next visit!

Great value for money. Stayed in both princess and non-princess rooms. Like everything except Alligator Bayou area. Food court is very nice. Great running trails between POR and POFQ. Princess room is excellent theme and we loved it (even my DS who is 12). Can't get enough of YeeHa Bob. I would stay here again.
